Welcome to the home page for the Southwestern Sociological Association (SSA). The SSA was established in 1919 and is an affiliate of the Southwestern Social Science Association (sssaonline.org). Members of SSA receive a subscription to the Association's journal -- the Social Science Quarterly (socialsciencequarterly.org).

Call for Papers

Preliminary Call, SSA 2013. Preliminary Notice of Call for Papers for the 2013 Southwestern Sociological Association Meetings in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 27-30. Paper submissions will be via electronic submission. The system is expected to be open for receiving submissions by September 1, 2012.

Program Notes and Updates for SSSA 2012

Please plan to attend the Plenary Address "Sociology and the Market-Model University" by Steven Brint, Professor of Sociology and Vice-Provost for Undergraduate Education at UC- Riverside (Friday 4:00 PM). Professor Brint is an expert on trends in higher education and will speak to Sociology's viability in the face of budget pressures and other challenges to higher education. This is followed by the SSA Business Meeting (5:30 PM) and then the SSA Reception (6:30-7:30 PM). Use the following link for more information about the plenary speaker.

Use the following link to get a list of program changes relating to Sociology Sessions at SSSA 2012. Thanks to Charlie Tolbert (Baylor University) for organizing the Sociology program and keeping up with late changes. Especially note that the "Professional Workshop on Race/Ethnicity, Mentoring and PhD Careers in Sociology" has been rescheduled to Thursday 8:30-945 AM in Randall E. (from Saturday 11:30 AM).

Don't forget the Sociology Silent Auction to support the American Sociological Association's Minority Fellowship Program. Bring items you wish to donate to the booth in the exhibit hall to be included in the auction and bid generously for the donated goodies. Thanks to Cynthia Cready (University of North Texas) for organizing the Silent Auction.
